The Outermost hall, called Garud Mandap, in front of the Mahalaxmi temple, was constructed during 1838-42. The eastern door was built by Sardar Dabhade, as was stated there, and is still visible today. The hands of numerous emperors brought it about. This temple’s construction took five to six centuries. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj & Sambhaji reigned. The Konkan king Kamadeo, Chalukya, Shilahar, and Yadav dynasties visited this city.Īdya Shankaracharya also visited the temple and constructed Deepmalas Nagar Khana & office in the 13th Century.

This demonstrates that the Mahalaxmi Temple has existed since the seventh century. This is the first recorded mention of the temple. On a copper plate discovered in Sanjan (Thane), it is written: “King Amoghvarsha offered his little finger to the goddess Mahalaxmi.”
